Sharing a bottle of Flor de Pingus: 1 in 8.3 million chance it kills you

~0.12 micromorts. 12 micromorts. Like taking the train 1,200 km. Estimate.

Mortmeter: Worth it. Superb Spanish Tempranillo with good company carries almost no mortal penalty. Drink up.

Assuming: Drinking one third of a 750 ml bottle of fine wine in a relaxed social setting without driving afterward.

How we got this: A full binge-drinking night costs about 25 micromorts, while moderate intake carries minimal acute lethality. Drinking 2.5 units of wine incurs roughly 0.05 micromorts per unit of mild accident and choking risk. 2.5 units times 0.05 micromorts gives approximately 0.12 micromorts.

What gets you: Minor motor impairment leading to a fall, Choking hazard while dining, Acute idiosyncratic cardiovascular reaction.

Cheaper version: Drinking tap water cuts the acute risk by 90 percent, but destroys all mortal joy.

Sources and method: how Mortmeter prices things, and the Atlas of measured risks.

More priced risks: Riding Polyppen at Bakken in Denmark, Eating 2 whole pizzas, Drinking a bottle of red wine, Winter bathing in the Øresund, A week of off-piste skiing, Getting LASIK eye surgery, Texting while driving on the motorway, Cage diving with great white sharks.
